An original etching by Jacques Villon, one of the most important printmakers of the School of Paris and a pivotal figure in the development of modern European art. This piece is titled Fete Champetre. Executed in Villon’s early figurative period, Fête Champêtre reflects the artist’s background as a professional caricaturist before his full engagement with Cubism. The composition presents a village official or bourgeois figure rendered with deliberate exaggeration and wit. Angular modeling, animated line work, and dense cross-hatching reveal Villon’s mastery of the etching process while anticipating the structural concerns that would later define his Cubist work. The plate displays strong, confident impressions with rich blacks and subtle tonal variation. Villon’s command of line and form is evident throughout, combining satirical observation with refined technical execution. Works from this transitional period are especially sought after, as they document Villon’s evolution from Belle Époque caricature to one of the most respected modern printmakers of the 20th century. This piece is accompanied by an original certificate issued by the Société de Vérification de la Nouvelle Gravure Internationale, New York and Paris, certifying the work as an original etching by Jacques Villon. The society was established by The Collector’s Guild Ltd. to uphold standards for original lithographs and etchings. It is double matted and framed under acrylic in an ornate, golden frame. With frame, it measures 14 inches x 15.5 inches. This piece was acquired from a Central Virginia estate. FREE SHIPPING FOR THIS PIECE WITH INSURANCE WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
