Condition/Description: Offered here is a vintage, Persian Saraband Mir runner was hand knotted in Iran of 100 percent natural wool on a cotton foundation. This rug has medium, wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. This runner is distinguished by a dramatic near-black field densely covered with hundreds of repeating botehs, or Persian paisley, motifs. The field is almost entirely devoted to rhythmic rows of small coral-red and rose botehs, creating a sophisticated pattern that changes character with viewing distance: from across a room, it reads as a rich geometric texture, while closer inspection reveals the individuality of the hand-drawn motifs. The exceptionally dark ground provides powerful contrast and gives the runner a more dramatic appearance than the familiar, red-ground Persian runner. Of particular collector interest, the rug incorporates a woven Persian inscription (and possibly signature) at one corner. The writing employs the traditional “amal-e” (work of) signature formula. The inscription is illustrated in one of the accompanying photographs. Clean and ready to be enjoyed. FLAT RATE SHIPPING OF $35.00 FOR THIS RUG WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Flat rate shipping is billed separately after the invoice has been paid.
Saraband rugs are a form of Persian Oriental Rugs. Saraband is a village of western Iran. This art belongs to the southeast of Arak, which is the central west area of Iran, and the south of Malayer. These rugs are usually double weft and knotted in a symmetrical way. Therefore, these carpets are handwoven like other Persian luxurious rugs. But famous for unobtrusive and sturdy charm. Saraband and the Mir-Saraband rug is an art from the 19th and early 20th Centuries. This handmade rug is usually used as a floor covering and the design consists of small leaves forms in diagonal rows. The tips of the leaves are pointed in opposite dimensions. Sometimes the patterns on the field on the rug, have the same direction. The borders of Mir-Saraband rugs are mostly decorated with Herati pattern or zigzag shapes.
