Condition/Description: Offered here is a vintage Persian Tabriz Mahi rug was hand knotted in Iran of 100 percent natural wool with a cotton foundation. This rug is at least 60+ years old, has medium to low wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. The field is densely covered with the classic Herati or Mahi pattern which consists of small rosettes surrounded by diamond forms and curved lancet-shaped leaves. This rug has particularly attractive layered medallion and corner composition. A large ruby and madder red diamond shaped field dominates the center, filled continuously with the miniature Mahi pattern. At its center is a pale blue-gray hexagonal medallion containing a smaller dark medallion. The outer field changes to very dark navy to brown color. Then again is densely populated with the Herati repeat, while pale blue-gray corner sections create another layer of depth. This rug was acquired from a central Virginia estate. There are several small areas of pile loss on the edge of one side of the rug. Clean and ready to be enjoyed. FLAT RATE SHIPPING OF $300.00 FOR THIS RUG WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Flat rate shipping is billed separately after the invoice has been paid.
Bidjar is the name of a small Kurdish town in western Iran. These Kurdish carpets are known for their firm knotting. Kurdish carpets are often very strong and compact, which makes them extremely durable. The weavers use their heavy comb, made of metal and wood, to beat the weft and the knots, so that the pile almost stands up. The surface of the pile, therefore, becomes very compact, which prevents gravel and other small particles to be pressed into the carpet. The carpets are made with Turkish knots and are generally red and blue with beige elements. Bidjar rugs are robust and dirt resistant. The positive effect: the rug benefits from a long-life span. The Persian carpets from Bidjar are available in almost all sizes. Their high knot density shows the high effort involved in production. Because their designs are often restrained and unobtrusive, they can be used in many environments.
