Condition/Description: Vintage Nain rug was hand knotted in Iran of 100 percent natural wool on a cotton foundation. This rug is 60+ years old, has medium to low wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. This rug is distinguished by its sophisticated near-monochromatic palette, finely articulated floral drawing, and remarkably versatile ivory ground. Created in the classical Persian design tradition, this is a particularly desirable example for today's interiors, where softly colored vintage and traditional rugs are increasingly used to bring texture, craftsmanship, and history into otherwise modern spaces. The composition centers upon an elaborate scalloped floral medallion, intricately drawn in warm ivory, cream, beige and taupe with restrained accents of deep navy, burgundy, soft powder blue and muted brown. Graceful scrolling vines extend throughout the field among palmettes, rosettes, lotus-form blossoms and delicate foliate devices, creating an extraordinarily detailed pattern that remains quiet and sophisticated because of the rug's restrained coloration. An especially attractive feature is the rug's ivory-on-ivory aesthetic. Rather than relying upon the strong reds and blues traditionally associated with many Oriental carpets, the weaver has created depth through subtle shifts in tone and finely delineated floral ornament. This rug came from a New Jersey estate. Clean and ready to be enjoyed. FLAT RATE SHIPPING OF $150.00 FOR THIS RUG WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Hardly any other hand-knotted rug is as appreciated as the Nain. Nain carpets belong to the finest handicrafts of Iran. The city lies on the border of one of Iran's largest deserts, the Dasht-e-Kavir. Hardly anyone has not seen a Nain carpet, at least in pictures. The excellent quality and the fine knotting make Nain rugs a highly sought-after piece of craftsmanship by rug connoisseurs. Traditional Nain patterns have a central medallion surrounded by floral patterns. Not to be denied is the resemblance to rugs from the nearby town of Isfahan. Typically, Nain carpets are dyed red, blue or beige on the surface. Particularly fine Nain rugs are made entirely of silk. These silk carpets naturally have higher prices than those made of wool, for example. If you are looking for special luxury, you will find what you are looking for in Nain rugs.
