Condition/Description: Offered here is a mansion sized Bukhara Tekke rug that was hand knotted in Pakistan of 100 percent natural wool on a cotton foundation. This rug is 40+ years old, has full wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. The warm ivory field is organized into precise rows of traditional Tekke-style guls, each intricately rendered in burgundy, brick red, chocolate brown, olive, camel, and near-black. Smaller geometric devices punctuate the field between the principal medallions, creating a sophisticated sense of movement and visual rhythm. Numerous finely patterned guard borders frame the composition, while broad geometric elem-style panels at either end reference the historic Turkmen textiles that inspired the Bokhara tradition. Its uncommon ivory ground is especially desirable from an interior-design perspective. Lighter and considerably more versatile than the familiar, red-ground Bukhara, it brings warmth and pattern to a room without visually overwhelming the space. This rug was acquired from a central Virginia estate. Clean and ready to be enjoyed. THIS RUG LIFE OFFERS FLAT RATE SHIPPING OF $300.00 FOR THIS RUG WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Flat rate shipping is billed separately after the invoice has been paid.
Bukhara Tekke Rugs are the floor covering woven by the Tekke Turkmen, who are the major population group of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran. Although elements of the tribe still migrated with their flocks until the Soviet era, most of them were sedentary during the 20th century. Their rugs are the most easily identifiable among the Turkmen, as the quartered gul (characteristic motif) of their larger carpets has become something of a trademark of the tribe and has frequently been copied in other rug-weaving areas. Tekke rugs almost always show various shades of red as a field color and are all wool except for patches of pink silk on some of the earlier pieces. The best of them are the most finely woven of Turkmen rugs, with short pile and lustrous, soft wool.
