Condition/Description: Offered here is a Heriz patterned rug was hand knotted of 100 percent natural wool on a cotton foundation. This rug has full wool piles and is in new condition. This new rug is distinguished by an unusually vibrant fuschia pink field, geometric blue central medallion, and broad turquoise to blue floral border. The combination gives this rug tremendous visual presence and makes it particularly compelling for the interior-design market. The composition is built around a large, sharply articulated geometric medallion in blue, ivory, soft gray, pink and golden yellow, surrounded by an expansive pink field populated with stylized palmettes, serrated leaves, flowering branches and small geometric botanical devices. Olive-green corner spandrels provide an unexpected counterpoint, while the wide blue border carries a rhythmic procession of angular flowers, palmettes and vines. This rug was acquired from an established rug merchant. Clean and ready to be enjoyed. FLAT RATE SHIPPING OF $300.00 FOR THIS RUG WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Flat rate shipping is billed separately after the invoice has been paid.
Heriz rugs are Persian rugs made in the city of Heris. Such rugs are produced in the village of the same name in the slopes of Mount Sabalan. Heriz carpets are durable and hard-wearing and they can last for generations. Part of the reason for the toughness of Heriz rugs is that Mount Sabalan sits on a major deposit of copper. Traces of copper in the drinking water of sheep produces high quality wool that is far more resilient than wool from other areas. Heriz weavers often make rugs in geometric, bold patterns with a large medallion dominating the field. Such designs are traditional and often woven from memory. There are several surrounding villages that make these rugs as well. The grades of these rugs are primarily based on village name. Serapi rugs, for example, have been considered the finest grade of Heriz since the beginning of the 20th century. Heriz rugs are often of coarse construction.
