Inventory #: 26-797 - $1,000.00
Offered here is a striking Erte (Romain de Tirtoff, Russian-French, 1892–1990) Serigraph titled Manhattan Mary V, 1989. This hand-signed, numbered, limited-edition color serigraph from one of the most recognizable masters of Art Deco design. Pencil signed Erte in the lower right and individually numbered 167 of 300 (lower left). Published references identify Manhattan Mary V as an original 1989 serigraph, issued in an edition of only 300 impressions. This is a superb expression of Erte’s celebrated fusion of fashion, theater and Art Deco glamor, the composition presents an elongated, elegantly poised female figure enveloped in a dramatic, rust, orange and violet beaded costume, dramatically accented by an oversized feather type collar and long rhythmic skirt panels. Erte's unmistakable elongated proportions, elegant hands, stylized face and extraordinary attention to costume detail are all beautifully represented. The figure is set in a luminous white, central field surrounded by bold, black and metallic gold geometric forms that produces a striking, architectural symmetry. The result combines Art Deco glamour, haute couture, geometry and theatrical sophistication in a work that remains remarkably contemporary more than three decades after its creation. This piece is matted and framed under acrylic in an ornate, golden frame. With frame, it measures 25 inches x 29.5 inches. This piece was acquired from a Metro Washington DC estate.
