Condition/Description: Offered here is an antique Persian Kashan rug was hand knotted in Iran of 100 percent natural wool on a cotton foundation. This rug is 100-120+ years old, has medium to low wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. The field centers on a large lobed medallion rendered in soft ivory, pale turquoise, and warm gold tones, radiating outward through an intricate network of scrolling vines, palmettes, and rosette. These are hallmarks of the Persian court-influenced design tradition. The drawing is fluid, balanced, and confidently executed, reflecting the aesthetic lineage of Kashan workshop production, with clear Isfahan-style influence. The palette is both rich and harmonious, incorporating saturated navy blue, ivory and parchment tones, soft turquoise and celadon green, warm sand and gold hues, with subtle coral accents. The colors are consistent with natural vegetable dyes, exhibiting gentle abrash (uneven fading) and an appealing, age-softened patina. No holes or repairs. This rug came from an established rug merchant. Clean and ready to be enjoyed. FLAT RATE SHIPPING OF $300.00 FOR THIS RUG WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The common design of a Kashan centers around a medallion, curved linear motifs like palmettos, leaves and arabesques designs encompass it throughout its surface area. From the medallion, the work across the rugs body is densely designed, giving it a thorough amount of character and originality that sets it apart from other Persian rug styles. Many Persian Kashan rugs follow a medallion-and-corner pattern, sometimes referred to as the book-cover or Koran design. The design, which arose during the 15th and 16th centuries, takes its inspiration from the beautifully tooled leather covers that were used to bind the Koran. The covers themselves were based on the intricate patterns found in the dome of mosques. The traditional colors used in Iranian Kashans are rich reds, blues, ivory, yellow, burnt orange and sometimes green. This classic design, like all hand knotted rugs, comes in a variety of qualities. These carpets have a 100 percent wool pile on a cotton base. The pile is clipped relatively short to allow the clarity of the design to come through. These rugs are typically dense and heavy.
