Condition/Description: Offered here is an antique Persian Heriz rug was hand knotted in Iran of 100 percent natural wool on a cotton foundation. This rug is 90+ years old, has full wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. A dramatic, deep navy field serves as the backdrop for an exquisitely rendered ivory medallion surrounded by intricate floral motifs, stylized vines, and angular botanical forms that define the celebrated Heriz aesthetic. Rich crimson borders, warm camel tones, soft rose accents, and touches of turquoise and sapphire blue create a sophisticated palette that has mellowed beautifully with age, giving the rug extraordinary warmth and character. Hand knotted using premium wool on a sturdy cotton foundation, this antique runner displays the dense construction and exceptional craftsmanship for which Heriz weavers are internationally renowned. This runner shows signs of abrash (uneven fading) due to the use of antiquated vegetable dyes. This rug was acquired from an established rug merchant. Clean and ready to be enjoyed. FLAT RATE SHIPPING OF $75.00 FOR THIS RUG WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Flat rate shipping is billed separately after the invoice has been paid.

Heriz rugs are Persian rugs made in the city of Heris. Such rugs are produced in the village of the same name in the slopes of Mount Sabalan. Heriz carpets are durable and hard-wearing, and they can last for generations. Part of the reason for the toughness of Heriz rugs is that Mount Sabalan sits on a major deposit of copper. Traces of copper in the drinking water of sheep produces high quality wool that is far more resilient than wool from other areas. Heriz weavers often make rugs in geometric, bold patterns with a large medallion dominating the field. Such designs are traditional and often woven from memory. There are several surrounding villages that make these rugs as well. The grades of these rugs are primarily based on village name. Serapi rugs, for example, have been considered the finest grade of Heriz since the beginning of the 20th century. Heriz rugs are often of coarse construction.
