Condition/Description: Offered here is an antique mansion sized, Persian Khorasan rug that was hand knotted in Iran of 100 percent natural wool on a cotton foundation. This rug is 100+ years old, has medium to low wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. Its richly layered claret-red field is centered by an intricate circular medallion rendered in midnight blue and warm apricot. An elaborate garden of scrolling vines, floral rosettes, palmettes, boteh forms, stylized blossoms, and elegant vase motifs unfold across the field, culminating in dramatic indigo corner spandrels. A broad principal border of alternating floral cartouches and rounded medallions is enclosed by multiple ivory and patterned guard borders, creating exceptional visual depth. The beautifully mellowed palette combines softened crimson, brick red, indigo, warm ivory, dusty rose, apricot, muted gold, turquoise, slate blue, olive, camel, and brown. Generations of age and use have softened these colors into the complex, quietly luxurious surface sought by leading interior designers. The extensive wear is not artificial distressing—it is the authentic patina of a genuinely old Persian textile. This rug has an attached retail price tag of $19,900.00. This rug was acquired from an established rug merchant. THE RUG LIFE OFFERS FLAT RATE SHIPPING OF $375.00 FOR THIS RUG WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Flat rate shipping is billed separately after the auction invoice has been paid.
Khorasan rugs are Persian hand knotted carpets from the broader Khorasan region, best known for room-size scale, refined florals, and grounded, decorator-friendly color. These rugs are large, room-anchoring Persian carpets woven in and around the Khorasan region of northeastern Iran, prized for refined floral drawing, balanced borders, and mature palettes that live comfortably in both traditional and modern interiors. In the trade, Khorasan can function as both a geographic attribution and a market umbrella for northeastern Persian workshop carpets. A strong Khorasan rug typically shows disciplined floral drawing, a clear border hierarchy, and a field design that reads at room scale. This would be either a central medallion framework or a confident allover design. Khorasan rugs are especially effective when you need scale, warmth, and a classical anchor that won’t overpower a room. In real interiors, they can behave like the base layer that designers expect from antique rugs. They can also mix comfortably with collected vintage rugs and still look intentional beside pared-back modern rugs in open-plan spaces.
